Abstract: "a little show of hands" tells the tale of Katrina de la Palma, a chicana struggling in Los Angeles at the time of the 2006 Immigration Reform protests. To offer a reading experience that forms around reader choices, the tale uses an adaptive hypertext system, called Literatronic. "a little show" has been excerpted from the longer in-progress novella, "a show of hands," which weaves Katrina's tale with the stories of the rest of the de la Palma family, culminating in the May 1 immigration marches. Mark is currently developing several staged versions of "a show of hands," including performances at the University of Southern California and the &Now Festival of innovative literature and art 2008 (http://andnowfestival.com/).
